The first phase of the study is devoted to determining the incidence and distribution
by age and sex of class III patients who visited our department from 1989. 7. 1 to 1990.
6. 30.
In the second phase of the study, lateral cephalogram of selected 99 patients aged from
7 to 10 years were compared with those of 30 children of both sexes with normal
occlusion.
Class III malocclusion patients were classified by their craniofacial skeletal pattern and
by their growth pattern to determine the incidence of each category.
The results were as follows :
1. The incidence of class III malocclusion was 35.14% in total visiting malocclusion
patients.
2. There was no sexual predilection in class III malocclusion patients.
3. 7,8-year-old group was 42.6% in total visiting class III malocclusion patients.
4. Classified based on their craniofacial skeletal pattern, in males, the pattern in which
maxilla was within the normal range of prognathism while mandible was beyond the
normal range of prognathism and functional class III were most common.
In females, the pattern in which maxilla was below the normal range of proglathism
while mandible was within the normal range of prognathism was most common.
In total patients, functional class III was most common.
5. Classified based on their growth pattern, normal growth pattern was most common.
And vertical growth pattern was about twice as many as horizontal growth pattern.
